Feature Request: More affordable DAM providers

Are there any plans to introduce some more affordable DAM providers?

I tend to use Cloudinary, which has a great free tier but is super expensive if you ever go over the limit.

It would be great to have some cheaper options like:

I know it would make my clients happy!

Hi Harry  This isn’t something we’ve planned, but we’re open to it!

I’d be interested to hear if anyone has experience with these different providers, or preferences about which one(s) they’d like to see integrated with CloudCannon.

The other important factor is whether they provide a solid API for us to work with, but it looks like all of the ones you mentioned do.

Ok great, that’s good to hear. Thanks Ryan.

At this point I’ve only looked into possible alternatives. The above is a shortlist of some that look like they have potential. Probably makes sense to take each one for a spin and see how they perform, so I’ll do that next.

Completely appreciate they need to provide a solid API, so I’ll take this into account and let you know what I find.

We really like MUX as a video DAM. In our opinion they offer more flexible pricing then the bigger players, are very developer focussed and have great insights/analytics.

The only downside over other DAMs is they do not support image content (video/livestream only)

in short: It would be awesome if MUX get’s added!

Hey Vadim, welcome to the community  I haven’t come across MUX before, but it looks quite neat and seems to have a pretty solid API.

I wonder if there are any features of MUX you would expect to be available in a CloudCannon-MUX integration, beyond the ability to list, reference, and upload assets?

Keen to hear if anyone else has any experience with MUX, or interest in a CloudCannon integration!

I used MUX quite a bit back when I was building sites with Sanity. I liked it a lot. I agree, the pricing modal is reasonable and there’s a decent free tier. Sanity also have a MUX plugin which lets you preview videos in the CMS, it’s really nice. Might be worth looking into if you decided to work on an integration.

I managed to look into some of the DAM providers I listed before and Gumlet and Bytescale support a bunch of different storage options, including most listed in the Cloudcannon docs. So we wouldn’t necessarily need a Cloudcannon integration to use these services. You’d just upload data to Cloudflare R2 or wherever, then set up a proxy to process your images/videos.

This approach led me to tools like https://imgproxy.net/ and the idea of self-hosting your own processing service. Admittedly there’s a bit more involved with this approach, as you have to manage a separate application, but it’s probably the most cost effective solution, particularly for bigger websites. I’m currently testing this out by running imgproxy on a AWS Lambda and it’s pretty cool because you can run one app that processes images/videos for multiple different websites. I’ll try and write a post about this when I’ve spent more time with it.
